WHAT IS A CHARTER SCHOOL?
- The basic charter school concept is encompassed in the idea of “autonomy for accountability.” Charter schools are public schools that are granted a specific amount of autonomy (determined by state law and the local charter) to make decisions concerning the structure, curriculum, and educational emphasis of the school. In return for this autonomy, charter schools are held accountable by their charter granting agency for the academic achievement of their students. The charter school faces suspension and even closure if performance standards are not met.
ARE THERE ADVANCED PLACEMENT AND HONORS CLASSES?
- Einstein Academy features an interdisciplinary program, aligned with the California content standards, enabling graduates to enter postsecondary education with a breadth of knowledge across disciplines. Honors and AP Classes feature prominently in course offerings.
WHAT LANGUAGES ARE OFFERED AT THE EINSTEIN ACADEMY?
- Hebrew, Spanish, Arabic, Greek and Latin will be offered. In the future Mandarin and Japanese may be offered as well.
IS THERE A COST FOR THE SCHOOL?
- No. A strong parent organization and fundraising is vital to the success of any school, but there is no required fee for school attendance.
WHAT GRADES ARE BEING SERVED?
- Einstein Academy will open with grades 7th-9th in 2010, expanding to 12th grade in succeeding years.
HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL BE ENROLLED IN 2010
- There will be 75 students per grade, a total of 225. Einstein Academy will grow to 450 students when 7th-12th grades are completely enrolled.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MORE STUDENTS APPLY THAN CAN BE ENROLLED?
- A lottery will be held for any grades where applications exceed space. This public lottery will be held in May.
DO YOU HAVE TO LIVE IN THE DISTRICT WHERE THE CHARTER SCHOOL IS LOCATED?
- No. Any student living in California can attend, however, students in the Hart Union High School District have priority.
WHAT ABOUT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL?
- We are currently working on a charter for our elementary students. We are anticipating opening elementary levels in 2011.
WHERE IS THE SCHOOL BE LOCATED?
- The Einstein Academy will open in the fall on a brand new campus located at 28141 Kelly Johnson Parkway, Santa Clarita, California.
WHAT ARE THE SCHOOL HOURS?
- A normal school day will be 8:30 am – 3:15 pm.
ARE THERE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS?
- Yes. Several exciting extra-curricular activities will be offered, including sports, music, arts and academic support.
HOW DO WE ENROLL OUR STUDENT?
- You can fill out an online application.
ARE YOU HIRING FACULTY AND STAFF?
- Yes, but please be aware that our faculty hiring requirements often conform more with public schools than they do with parochial schools.
